The future of the Lopushanskis river basin is in the development of domestic and international tourism. Guaranteeing this are environmental resources, economic opportunities and the ecologically pure nature in the region. The Municipality has many natural resources available: venerable oak forests, clean and fast rivers, streams, and especially clean air, which provides good opportunities for the practice of hunting and fishing tourism.
 
The area of the municipality Georgi Damyanovo is recognized as one of the most ecologically pure in relation to the country. The municipality has the potential to develop ecotourism. Protected Areas and territories are Reserve Usketo, in Dalgi Del village, and the site of Kopren, in Kopilovtsi village. Natural sites are "Bear Hole,” in Kamena Riksa village, Durshin Waterfall and the waterfalls Water Jump and Landzhin Jump in the village Kopilovtsi, waterfall Razhena Bar, in Elovitsa village, centuries-old trees / winter oak, beech and Sequoia/, and special purpose wood,  Lesopark “Balova Shunma.” Another tourism product is the Koprenskata eco-path with its unique routes. In the area there is great biodiversity.
 
-   At the foot of Kopren there is a tourist complex was built with 26 beds. Telephone reservations (+359) 884 54 25 62. Several eco-paths start there and lead to the following waterfalls: Lanzhin jump, Durshin jump and leap of Water Grafska River. In this complex is the villa of creative artist Venelin Zahariev.
 
 
 
 
-   The guesthouse, Balova Shunma, is located in the memorial complex Balova Shunma above the village Gavril Genovo. The memorial complex is devoted to the everlasting memory of victims of freedom and democracy of the Chiprovski rebellion of 1688. The complex is a member of BAAT / Bulgarian Association for Alternative Tourism. Among oak forest with much greenery and well-shaped lanes, 2 km from the nearest settlement and 15 km from Montana, the guesthouse is the perfect place for your relaxation, discreet meeting or reunion. There are 9 rooms and 1 suite, divided into solid brick houses with separate bathroom, television, air conditioning and satellite receiver in many of them. Most rooms are equipped with double beds and sofa sleepers suitable for accommodating families with children. Currently the price of a room is 30 leva. For students, seniors and organized groups – the price is negotiable. Pets are permitted. The guesthouse restaurant offers traditional Bulgarian cuisine and consisting of two halls - one with 18 seats and one with 60 seats and a summer garden with 80 seats. At 250 meters is picturesque Mikro reservoir "Chernoviya" with excellent conditions for fishing. 1 km away the two rivers, Chiprovska and Dalgidelska, merge into the Ogosta River, and after 12 kilometers they form the second biggest dam in Bulgaria "Ogosta" - very convenient for windsurfing, fishing and beach activities.
 
 
 
 
-   Theg "Milanovi" is located at the top lane leading to the village Gavril Genovo, immediately after the bridge of rivers Chiprovska Ogosta. Located in a huge yard of 3.5 decars, among fruit trees and vegetation, the house offers 7 rooms with 4 bathrooms and toilets,  a dinning room with a huge fireplace with full kitchen furniture and 22 seats. In the summer the two verandas of the house, equipped with tables for eating, create additional comfort and relaxing atmosphere together with the sound of the nearby river. The total accommodation capacity is up to 20 beds. 100 m from the house is a bus stop with regular bus lines to Montana, Belogradchik, Vidin, Sofia and Chiprovtsi. 4 km is Lopushanski Monastery, a 18 km - Chiprovski monastery. Places and Sites of Interest
 
 
 
Below are listed possible sites for development of cultural tourism and creation of tourist products on the territory of Georgi Damianovo Municipality.
 
-     At the foot of Kopren there is a tourist complex with 26 beds. Several eco-paths start there and lead to the following waterfalls: Grafska reka. Near that complex is located the creative villa house of the artist Venelin Zahariev. In Kopilovtci village there are different monuments and also a bronze statue of Heracles. An ancient stone (fronton) belonging to a Catholic cathedral destroyed during the Chiprovtsi rebellion in 1688 is saved there. A Latin water tap has been preserved and can still be used. In Kopilovtci village are made Chiprovtsi and Pirotski carpets and tapestries. 
 
 
 
 
  
-     Lopushanski Monastery “St. John the Baptist,” has been declared a cultural monument with national importance. Dionysius and his brother, Gerasim, of Berkovitsa, helped restore the Chiprovtsi Monastery after the rebellions of 1836 and 1837. They moved to Lopushna village in 1850 where Dionysius started the renovation of Lopushanski Monastery. He started with constructing a fenced two-story building on the way to Pomezhdin village and in 1853 he constructed a two-story building in the direction of Melyane village.  One of the rooms has been used as a temple and another room as a school. In 1856 a new four-sided water tap has been constructed and decorated with many relief carvings. At the south side is decorated with an eagle with two heads and the initials I and D for Abbot Dionysius and at the east side is a Russian coat of arms with the following numbers, 1856. Dionysius was eager to build a temple similar to the temple in the Rila Monastary. “He could not sleep during the night he was thinking only about the temple and wanted it to be the most beautiful one.” In the summer of 1859 started the excavation work for the large temple. Then they found mass funeral sites. The gathered all the bones and skulls and in 1860 built the temple “Virgin Mary” with a tomb where they stored the remains. The construction of the large temple began on April 21, 1859 with a big celebration. From the outside of the temple and at the gates are depicted people, fantastic animals, and other figures. An icon was made by Stoycho Fandakov and his son Dimitar. In two of the columns of the temple are placed carvings of the Virgin Mary and Jesus, painted by Stanislav Dospevski in 1863 and the other icons in the temple were painted by his brother Nikolai Dospevski. There are two chapels, the southern named St. John the prestecha and the northern one named St. John the Baptist, which is a tourist attraction. The monks living in the monastery and the guests can also visit the other temples and historical and natural resources in Lopushanska river basin. The curches in the villages Kopilovtsi, Glavanovtsi, Diva Slatina and Gavril Genovo have been restored and are functioning.
 
 
 
 
 
-     In the village Melyane, 2 km from the Lopushanski Monastery, the artist Chavdar Antov lives and works. In his workshop he has a collection of antiques from the region and is preparing to display ethnographic and artistic collections.
 
 
-    In the village Gavril Genovo works the famous professor and graphic artist, Galileo Simeonov.
 
 
-    Folklore, holidays, customs – the cultural centers in the villages of Kopilovtsi, Govezhda, Dalgi Del and Georgi Damianovo have active cultural activities including the performance of songs and dramas typical for the region.
 
 
 
 
 

Holidays

 

Inhabitants of Georgi Damianovo celebrate each year the holiday of the Balkan in March. During the celebration there are singing and dancing performances which are usually held in the area “Mladenin vir”, “Bradchata” and hovel “Kopren”.
